> What the Tesla Roadster meme is, where the Day 1 flying car videos came from, the three formats people post, and how to make your own version with AI from one photo of you or your car.

The Tesla Roadster meme is the internet's answer to a car that can fly: a deadpan driver on "Day 1 of owning the Tesla Roadster" who takes off from a traffic jam, sails over a city and lands somewhere completely ordinary. Since the Roadster reveal in October 2026, the Tesla Roadster meme has turned into dozens of AI formats. Below is where it came from, the three versions people post most, how an AI flying car video is made, and how to make yours from one photo of you or your car.

## Where the Tesla Roadster meme came from

On 15 October 2026 Tesla showed its new Roadster on a closed course. In the demo the car drives up a tall curved ramp, hangs upside down near the top, launches off the end and flips in the air before landing on cold-gas thrusters. The clip spread fast, and so did the arguments about whether it was real; fact-checkers confirmed it was filmed, not generated.

Within a day the Tesla Roadster meme started. If the car can fly, what does an ordinary day look like? The first Tesla Roadster meme clips were AI videos of people stuck in traffic who simply leave it behind. One short in-car video, filmed from the back seat with the caption "Day 1 of owning the Tesla Roadster", became the template everyone copied: the driver glances back at the camera, pulls into traffic, lifts off, flies over a city and lands at a shop as if nothing happened.

We don't show the original demo or anyone's post here. Every example below is our own AI render.

## The three Tesla Roadster meme formats people post

Scroll the trend for a few minutes and the same three shapes keep coming back.

| Format | What happens | Who is in it |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 in the car | A back-seat camera: the driver looks back, then flies out of traffic, over a city, and lands | The driver |
| Fly over traffic | Stuck in a jam, the driver presses a glowing button and the car flips over the traffic on thrusters | The driver |
| Your car on the ramp | Your own car climbs the curved launch ramp, hangs upside down, flips and hovers | Your car |

There are smaller branches too: a flying car stealing the last parking space, a police stop that ends with the car lifting off, a car driving on a tunnel ceiling. The three above are the ones that get remade most, so they are the three our page makes.

## Day 1 in the car, second by second

The Day 1 version is the heart of the Tesla Roadster meme. The joke is the calm: something impossible happens and the driver acts like it is a normal commute.

| Seconds | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0–1 | Parked on a leafy street, you glance back over your shoulder straight into the camera with a flat face. |
| 1–5 | You face forward and drive into slow traffic, then onto an open road. |
| 6–9 | The car is suddenly high above the clouds; you keep both hands on the wheel. |
| 9–12 | The car tips into a dive over a huge city, then pulls up toward the skyline. |
| 12–15 | It swoops over rooftops and lands in a car park; you sit back and look at the shops. |

(Image: Five frames from a vertical video filmed from the back seat of a white-interior car: a bearded man glancing back at the camera, the man driving in traffic, the sky above clouds through the glass roof, a city far below, and the car parked in a car park — Five moments from our Day 1 example (AI-generated face): the look back, the traffic, the clouds, the city and the landing.)

## How an AI flying car video is made

A video model that copies a reference clip copies more than the motion. It copies whoever is in the clip: their hair, their clothes, sometimes their face. With a car, it copies the car's colours and shape. So the reference matters as much as your photo.

We made our own references for each Tesla Roadster meme format. For the two driver videos, an AI stand-in driver with a buzz cut and a plain white T-shirt; for the ramp, a plain car painted one flat grey, like a clay design model. Your photo replaces the stand-in, and everything else stays: the camera, the cuts, the flight and the timing.

(Image: Four vertical back-seat frames: a man with a buzz cut in a white T-shirt glancing back, a bearded man in a denim shirt glancing back in the same pose, the buzz-cut man driving above the clouds, and the bearded man driving above the clouds — Our AI stand-in driver (first and third) and the finished video from one photo (second and fourth), at 0.6 and 7 seconds. Every face here is AI-generated.)

The stand-ins are plain on purpose. A stand-in that looks like the people who use it gets copied back into their videos; one that looks nothing like them gets replaced cleanly. For the ramp we first tried a white car with a black roof, and the model kept painting that pattern onto people's cars whenever the car was small or upside down. A single flat grey fixed it.

## Fly over traffic: the button, the flip and the cabin

The second Tesla Roadster meme format is louder. A sunset traffic jam stretches to the horizon, a close-up through the side window shows the driver's smirk, a finger presses a glowing button, and the car fires its thrusters and barrel-rolls over the cars. Inside, the driver gets thrown around and grabs the wheel; outside, the car rockets away over the traffic.

(Image: Five frames from a vertical action video at sunset: a long traffic jam from above, a bearded man smirking through a car window, a finger pressing a glowing blue button, a white sports car flipping over traffic on thrusters, and the man shocked inside the cabin — Our Fly over traffic example (AI-generated face): the jam, the smirk, the button, the flip and the cabin.)

This one shows your face in a close-up and in profile, so a clear, well-lit photo matters most here.

## Your own car on the ramp

The third Tesla Roadster meme format swaps the car instead of the person: you upload a photo of your own car and it does the launch-ramp stunt. A rear close-up at the foot of a giant curved ramp, the climb, the upside-down moment at the top, the flip through the night air, the hover on four thruster jets and the landing in smoke.

(Image: A phone photo of a blue family SUV in a driveway, then four night frames of the same SUV: parked at the foot of a curved concrete ramp, climbing the ramp, flipping in the air and hovering on thruster jets — One photo of a family SUV (AI-generated), then the same SUV at 1, 7, 10.2 and 12.8 seconds of our ramp example.)

Any road vehicle works: a hatchback, an SUV, a pickup, a van. The AI keeps your car's body, colour and wheels while it flips, which is the hard part.

## How to make your Tesla Roadster meme video

| | App templates | Your own prompt | One photo on our page |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you do | Pick a template, add a photo | Write a prompt, find a reference clip | Pick a version, add one photo |
| Versions | Usually one per template | Whatever you can describe | Day 1, Fly over traffic, or your car on the ramp |
| Your look | Depends on the template | Hard to keep through a flip | Kept from your photo |
| Size | About 5–15 seconds, often 480p | Depends on the model | 12–15 seconds, vertical, 720p |
| Sound | Varies | Add it yourself | Already in the video |

**1. An app template.** Several AI video apps added a flying car template within a day of the reveal. Most offer one version each, and many render at 480p.

**2. Your own prompt.** A video model with a reference clip can recreate the Tesla Roadster meme, but expect many tries: the flip and the cabin shots are exactly where faces and cars slip.

**3. One photo on our page.** On [Flying Car AI](https://airapduo.io/flying-car-ai.md) you pick Day 1 in the car, Fly over traffic or Your car on the ramp, and add one photo. You get a vertical 720p video with sound, and every example shows the photo next to the result.

## Photo tips for the Tesla Roadster meme

- **One adult for the driver videos.** Face to the camera, good light. Photos of children are turned away.
- **Your clothes come along.** Long sleeves stay long and a jacket stays on, so wear what you want to drive in.
- **The whole car for the ramp.** Shoot it from the front corner or the side, with all four wheels in view and nothing in front of it.
- **Beards and glasses stay.** If they're in the photo, they're in the video.

## Posting your Tesla Roadster meme

Your video already has its sound, lined up with the lift-off. Post it as it is, add the "Day 1 of owning the Tesla Roadster" caption on top, or pick a trending sound in the app and turn ours down. Label it as AI-generated when you post; TikTok and Instagram both ask for it, and only use photos of people who agreed to be in it.

Our page is a fan-made take on a viral meme. It isn't affiliated with Tesla, Inc. or with the creators of the original videos, and none of its frames come from Tesla's footage.
